Hyacinth "Hy" Willis Lancaster, 82, of E. Lockhaven Drive died Tuesday at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory Dr. C. Paul Willis will officiate. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Lancaster was born in Carteret County on April 13, 1924, to the late Floyd Berry Willis and Myra Hardison Willis. She received her master of arts degree from East Carolina University in Greenville and was an educator for over 42 years in Wayne and Craven counties' school systems. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three nephews, John G. Scott III of Atlanta, Ga., Julian Douglas "Doug" Scott of Holly Springs and James "Jimmy" Fitzgerald Lancaster of Goldsboro; one sister, Elsie Lorraine Willis Scott-Smith of Raleigh; and her extended family, Amber Lancaster, Hannah Scott, Shaina Pitsenbarger, Taylor Scott and Ashlyn Nicole Lambert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lancas-ter.

The family will receive friends following the service on Friday at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to any orphanage or the Home for Boys.
