LT. ERNEST SCHMID

Jan. 21, 1930-April 28, 2006

Lt. Col. Ernest Aloisius Schmid, Retired USAF, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mr. Schmid was born in Syracuse, N.Y., to the late Ernest J. Schmid and Margaret Asam Schmid.

He retired from the United States Air Force with 22 years of service. Following his military career, Mr. Schmid was a partner with Town and Country Real Estate Company in Goldsboro. Mr. Schmid was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and served as Vice Chairman of the Eastern Wayne Sanitary District.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Ordelt presiding. The service will conclude on the front lawn with full military honors.

Mr. Schmid is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hood Schmid; his daughter Elaine M. Schmid of Holly Springs; his son Ernest J. "Chip" Schmid and wife Vivian Langley-Schmid of Mebane; his brother Walter S. Webbs and wife, Derlene of Dallas, Texas; his sister Lotte Brown and husband Bill of Lake Helen, Fla.; and grandchildren, Alexandria Schmid and Maggie Schmid.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund at 532 Country Day Road or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center at 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive.

The family will greet friends following the service at the church.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
