Died April 7, 2006

Henry Bowden, 81, of 139 O'Berry Road, Dudley, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Headquarters , 1800 S. Slocumb St. The Rev. James Grimes will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Bowden was the son of the late Arthur and Martha Bowden. He was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent of the Sunday school department and chairman of the trustee board. He was a graduate of Carver High School and a United States Army veteran of World War II. He retired with 20 years of service as a health care technician at Cherry Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche Bowden of the home; three children, Anthony (Sonya) Green of Spring Lake, N.C., Maurice Green of the home and Gaynelle (Carlos) Diaz of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Arthur (Angeline) Bowden of Dudley and William Bowden of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Elouise Artis of Mount Olive; one sister-in-law, Cleo Bowden of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Ronnie, Victoria, Sherry, Anthony and Jamaal; and one great-grandchild, Tylan Sean.

The wake will be held Friday night from 7 until 8 at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Rhodes Funeral Home is serving the family.
