NITA C. GRIMES

MOUNT OLIVE -- Nita Chestnutt Grimes, 91, died Tuesday morning at her home at 98 Coker Store Road.

A member of Brownings United Methodist Church, she was a retired homemaker and farmer's wife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Braxton Grimes; two sons, Cordell Grimes and Urbian Faber "Bugger Man" Grimes; a sister, Gladys C. Joyner; and five brothers, Rodney Chestnutt, Frank Chestnutt, W. H. Chestnutt, Earl Chestnutt, and Tiny Man Chestnutt.

Her survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Earl and Judy Grimes of Mount Olive, Herbert and Janice Grimes of Texas, and Hilda Grimes of Mount Olive; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail G. and Manfred Hood of Grantham and Jayne G. and Joe Dan Waller of Mount Olive; three sisters, Lucille Daughtry of Newton Grove, Catherine Sutton of Goldsboro and Roxie Smith of Farmville; six grandchildren, Anthony Grimes, Jamie Grimes, Ashley Grimes, Michelle Hood, Manfred Hood III, and Bridgett Bass; nine great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Willa Thornton.

The funeral will be held by the graveside at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Grimes Family Cemetery, near the home. Dr. Lily Chou will officiate.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Brownings United Methodist Church or Suttontown Rescue Squad.

Tyndall Funeral Home is serving the family.
