MILFORD JACKSON

MOUNT OLIVE -- Milford Richard "Swifty" Jackson, Sr., 84, of 407 E. College St., died Tuesday.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Steven Wicks will officiate. Burial will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Jackson was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the United States Army. He was captured at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II and spent time as a prisoner of war.

For many years he was employed by Hasty Plumbing and Heating Co. of Mount Olive, and he retired from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base as a civil engineer. He was a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church and the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge and Mount Olive American Legion Post 103.

He was preceded in death by a son, Milford R. "Ricky" Jackson Jr.; his parents, Ceba A. and Mamie Malpass Jackson; and a brother, James Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Lane Jackson of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ceba Alan and Barbara Jackson of Fayetteville; another daughter-in-law, Martha Battle Jackson of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Ceba Alan Jackson Jr. and Eric Jackson; and two sisters, Kathleen Brown of Beulaville and Edith Roberts of Wallace.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service on Thursday night, and other times at the residence.

Flowers are welcome; memorial gifts may be directed to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
