VIRGINIA T. BYRD

SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Virginia Tadlock Smith Byrd, 85, passed away Wednesday evening, March 8, 2006, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A native of Calypso in Duplin County, she was born November 2, 1920, the daughter of the late, Nathan L. and Sally Whitman Tadlock. Following marriage to her late husband, Edgar Lee Smith, she moved to the Shine Community of Greene County where she resided until her death. A member of Eden Christian Church, she joined the church shortly after moving to Greene County and was a very faithful and devoted part of the church until her recent decline in health limited her involvement. An avid homemaker, Mrs. Byrd will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her Lord, family and church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Reverend Jack Mays officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her daughter, Dianna Smith of Snow Hill; son, Nathan Smith and wife, Libby, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Lee Smith and wife, Jan, of Snow Hill and Cammie Smith of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Dylan Smith and Bailey Smith; and a brother, Marvin Tadlock of Wilmington.
A brother, James Tadlock of Calypso, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m., and other times at the residence in the Shine community.
