MARIE D. SNYPES

Jan. 26, 1924 - March 1, 2006

Marie D. Snypes, 82, died Wednesday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late John William and Mabel Dickerson Davis, and the widow of the Rev. James Grayson Snypes. Mrs. Snypes graduated from Goldsboro Highs School, and the Woman's College of Greensboro, which is now known as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. In addition to ministering with her husband at 15 different United Methodist Churches, she was employed with several businesses and ended her career as a secretary at Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, John S. Davis, and two sisters, Dorothy Fiorino, and Ruth Ebert.

A graveside funeral service was held 11 a.m. Saturday at Willowdale Cemetery. The Reverends Douglas Johnson and Virgil "Butch" Huffman officiated.

Mrs. Snypes is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn S. Johnson of Houston, Texas, Toni S. and Harold Cardwell of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, James Jackson and wife, Carmen of Houston, Texas, Kelly Reed of Wilmington; three great-grandchildren, Karilyn Marie Jackson, James Jackson Jr., both of Houston, Texas, and Jacob Reed of Wilmington.

Family members greeted friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of her daughter, Toni Cardwell, 3103 Cashwell Dr., Unit 107, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Flowers are welcome, and memorial gifts may be directed to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Jefferson Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
