Bertie Esther Best Horne, 85, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Horne was born in Wayne County on March 24, 1920, to the late John Best and Rachel Sasser Best. She was married to the late Clifton Charlie Horne. Mrs. Horne was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, and the Faith Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Primetimers and the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group.

Funeral services will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Horne is survived by her son, C. Darrell Horne and wife, Anne, of Goldsboro; her sister, Ruth Best Pierce of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Marla H. Ashworth and husband, Don, of Goldsboro; DeeDee H. Stewart and her husband, Michael, of Hayesville, Kan.; Pam C. Stanley of Wake Forest; Kathy C. Cox and husband, Fenton, of Grantham; Karen C. Murphy and husband, Doug, of Brownsville, Texas; Leigh C. Weikert and husband, Dave, of Pooler, Ga.; her great-grandchildren, Rachel and Daniel Ashworth; Isaac and Lydia Stewart; Beth Stanley; Stephanie Cox; Jackson and Griffin Weikert; and Harrison and Katherine Murphy; and a very special sister-in-law, Daisy Best of Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by her son, Glen Horne; her brothers, Milton Best, J.R. Best, Chester Best, Paul Best; and a sister, Edna Lancaster.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church following the service on Friday night, and other times at the home of Darrell and Anne Horne, 102 Wackena Point (Walnut Creek), Goldsboro

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff of the Pines of Goldsboro, the Brian Center, and Wayne Memorial Hospital.
