Retired United States Air Force Colonel Roy Lee Vick Sr., 89, of 305 Glen Oak Drive, died Monday at his home.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Foster presiding. The service will conclude with full military honors.

Colonel Vick was born in Franklin County on April 30, 1916, to the late Algie Vick and Rhoda Griffin Vick. He served in the United States Air Force for 28 years, which included service during World War II. He served as past president of the Activities Committee and the Retired Officers Association at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Colonel Vick was a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis and was a recipient of their Kiwanian of the Year Award. He was also the 1989 North Carolina recipient of the Governor's Award for Volunteering.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary H. Vick, and is survived by three sons and two daughters, Stephen L. Vick of Klamath Falls, Ore., Ronald R. Vick of Goldsboro; Trudy J. Phillips of Phoenix, Ariz., Amy K. Stone of Rockingham and Roy L. Vick Jr. of Raleigh; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or the American Red Cross, 600 N. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will greet friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service on Thursday morning, and other times at the residence.
