Died Feb. 17, 2006

PIKEVILLE -- Luther Herbert Vail Jr., 74, of 102 E. Vail St., died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Vail was born in Wayne County on February 12, 1932 to the late Luther Herbert Vail and Sally Musgrave Vail, and was the widower of Jean Conner Vail.

He was a retired farmer in the Pikeville area and had attended East Carolina University. Mr. Vail owned and operated Vail Farm Supply and Vail Restaurant in Pikeville and was also co-owner of Castle Manufactured Homes in Pikeville. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bryan Huffman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery.

Mr. Vail is survived by his daughters, Barbara "Babs" Vail Schwartz and husband, John of Durham and Pamela "Pam" Vail Hill and husband, Rick of Greenville; his sons, Luke Vail and wife, Lisa of Pikeville and Tom Vail and wife, Tammy of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jenny Schwartz, Michael Schwartz, Christy, David, Stephanie and Jeffrey Luke Hill, Blake Vail and Addison Vail; and his sister, Doris Vail Yelverton of Pikeville.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Vail Campbell, Dr. Evelyn Vail Coonrad, and Helene Vail Rawson.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Joseph United Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund, P.O. Box 43, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends today from 4 until 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
