Joseph Franklin "Jack" Spivey, 89, died Wednesday at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.

Mr. Spivey was born in Johnston County to the late Joe Cyphus Spivey and Cora Kornegay Spivey. He worked as a lieutenant with the Police Detective Division in Newport News, Va., and later retired with Geico Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Wall Spivey; two daughters, Wilhelmina Nelson and husband Les of Goldsboro and Teresa Jo Farlow and husband Tim of Concord; a son, Joseph Dwight Spivey and wife Mary Jane of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Frances Johnson of Julian, Ruth Best of Orangevale, Calif., and Dr. Ann Boyette of Kenly; a brother, George Spivey of Portsmouth, Va.; and eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Anderson Spivey.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10 until 11 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Wilhelmina and Les Nelson, 401 N. Cottonwood Drive, Goldsboro.
