BILL JORDAN

Mr. W.L. "Bill" Jordan died peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2006. He was born on July 20, 1922 and was the son of Ulise and Caviness Jordan of Cedar Grove, Orange County, North Carolina.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 58 1/2 years, Martha, formerly of Maceo, Kentucky. He is also survived by his daughter, Marilyn, and son-in-law, Jack Whitley, and granddaughter, Maris Jordan Whitley, all of Greensboro; his brother, Linwood Jordan, and his sister, Mary Lou Faulkner, both of Burlington.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army from November 1942 to December 1945 and was in the European Theater of Operations for 25 months during that time. On D-Day, he was on the company headquarters ship and went in at D plus 5. Mr. Jordan was in the 81st and the 83rd Chemical Mortar Battalions and served in Patton's Army while in the 83rd.

Mr. Jordan retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Company Inc. of Richmond, Virginia after 40 years of service. He continued working as a consultant for four additional years. In 1976, he was made Vice President of J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company and in 1977 was made Senior Vice President of W.H. Winstead Tobacco Company.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #139 and a charter member of Walnut Creek Country Club.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Fishman officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 until 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
