PHYLLIS KENNEDY

Feb. 8, 1940-Feb. 4, 2006

PINEHURST --Phyllis Garris Kennedy, of 250 Lake Forest Drive, died Saturday at Moore Regional Hospital.

She was a native of Pender County and was the daughter of Shirley Hewett Garris of Apex and the late L.W. Garris. She graduated from Clinton High School and received bachelor of science degree in home economics from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. In addition to a career in education, she served as executive director of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and was most recently employed as Family-to-Family Program Director for the North Carolina NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her husband, Jack Kennedy of Pinehurst; two sons, Michael Kennedy of Wilson and Gregory Kennedy of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; two sisters, Jane Garriss Watts of Carrboro and Beth Garriss Hardy of Reidsville; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilson. The Rev. Jim McKinnon and Dr. William Presnell will officiate.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor on Tuesday from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
