SHELBY -- Charles Coolidge Bingham, 79, father of Dean Bingham of Goldsboro, died Wednesday at Hospice at Wendover.

He was the son of the late Gettys David Bingham and Mary Lillie Sain Bingham and was married to Margaret Rudisill Bingham for 52 years. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a self-employed farmer who also worked for 17 years as a milk hauler for the Carnation Company. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Shelby and was a charter member of Waco Volunteer Fire Department and Waco Ruritan Club and served on the board of directors of Farm Bureau.

In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Bingham is survived by a daughter, Becky Bailey of Shelby; two other sons, Dale Bingham of Shelby and Barry Bingham of Lawndale; five brothers, J.D. Bingham of Fallston, Dr. Wayne Bingham of Blacksburg, Va., Dr. Billy Bingham of Lynchburg, Va., Gettys Bingham Jr. of Advance and Dr. Carroll Bingham of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Ella Treece of Vale and Helen Mortez of Boone; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
