The funeral for Essie K. Payne, 94, of 1255 Wellington Drive, Deltona, Fla., will be held by the graveside on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Payne was a native of Sampson County and was the daughter of Thomas and Mattie Sutton King and the widow of Ernest Payne. She was a former dietitian with Los Angeles County Hospital and was a member of the Garden Club in Deltona.
She is survived by one son, Crouse Odom of Kinston; one brother, T.O. King of Durham; and a sister, Della K. Taylor of Mount Olive; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home during the hour prior to the service.
