Alma Richardson Simmons, 84, of 316 Rollingwood Drive, Dudley, died Sunday at SunBridge for Mount Olive.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Union Grove Church. The Rev. James Lucas will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Simmons was a native of Wayne County, the seventh of nine children born to the late Daniel and Glennie Hill Richardson. She was a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher and Mother boards. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Seymour Simmons; a daughter, Joyce R. Core; and four brothers.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Hugh "Danny" Core (Tonya) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Ronnie Core (Lisa) of Dudley, Joyce Core Mosley (Willie) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Calvin Core (Katina) of Dudley and Eyvette Core of Pikeville; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also, four sisters, Nina Richardson of Dudley, Lila Ruffin of Norfolk, Va., Clyde Jones of Creswell and Glennie Maxine Grantham (Julius) of Belleville, Ill.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The viewing hours will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Goldsboro, and the family will be present to receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m.
