Ruth Ellis Best, 84, of 1935 New Hope Road, LaGrange, died today at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The Rev. T. C. West and the Rev. Virgil Whitehurst will officiate. Burial will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Best was born in Wayne County to the late Herman Ellis and Ruby Rose Ellis and was raised in the Rosewood Community. An asset to her community, she was an active member of Beston United Methodist Church and was member of the Extension Homemakers Club for 59 years.

Survivors include her husband, Winston P. Best; one daughter, Margaret B. Weaver of Sneads Ferry; one son, Donald C. Best, and his wife, Wanda, of LaGrange; four sisters, Dorothy Perkins, Sarah E. Avery and Carolyn E. Thompson of Goldsboro and Cleone Ellis of Apex; one brother, Harold Ellis of Goldsboro; one grandson, Brad Weaver; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Weaver and James Winston Weaver.

Another grandson, Stephen Minshew, preceded her in death.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to Beston United Methodist Church, 2360 New Hope Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service on Wednesday evening, and other times at the home of Donald and Wanda Best, 1961 New Hope Road, LaGrange.
