ELVORENA DEANS

Elvorena H. Deans, 89, of Bartlett Road, Pikeville, died Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7:30 in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Willard Hardison will officiate. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma.

Mrs. Deans was born in Johnston County to the late Leeroy Hatcher and Martha "Stella" Sellers Hatcher. She was a member of and former Sunday school teacher at Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of its Ladies' Auxiliary.

She is survived by four sons, Kenneth Deans of Pikeville, Sidney Deans of Bassett, Va., Jerry Deans of Raleigh and Randy Deans of Clayton; one daughter, Shelby Ward of Johnson City, Tenn.; one sister, Harriette Brown of Selma; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deans was preceded in death by her husband, Delma L. Deans and three brothers.

The family will receive friends at Howell Funeral Home during the hour prior to the service tonight, and other times at the residence of Kenneth Deans, 932 Bartlett Road, Pikeville.
