James Paul Britt, 76, of 657 Saulston Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Britt was born in Wayne County on November 12, 1929 to the late Paul Britt and Mamie Helen Carraway Peele. He served his country in the United States Army and retired after 20 years of service. Mr. Britt attended Saulston United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church. The Reverends Rick Ward and Rev. Elijah E. Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Britt is survived by his wife, Marjorie Strickland Britt; a daughter, Linda G. Kelley and husband, Randy of Augusta, Ga.; a son, James M. Britt and wife, Cynthia of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Jessie R. Williams of Garner; five grandchildren; stepsons, Tim Robinson and wife, Brenda and Joey Robinson and wife, Debbie all of Goldsboro; stepdaughter, June Vinson and husband, Danny of Goldsboro; seven step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren, all of Goldsboro; nephews, Danny Southerland of Goldsboro and Gary Coker of Sykesville, Md.; and a great-nephew, Scott Southerland of Goldsboro.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Saulston United Methodist Church, 4620 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va., 23058.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church and other times at his residence.
