ALBERTSON -- Berry Edward "Boweevil" Holmes, 71, of 898 Woodland Church Road, died Sunday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Ivy White officiating. Burial was held today 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
He retired from Jenkins Gas and Oil Co. as manager of its Pink Hill office.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years who faithfully stood by his side, Marie H. Holmes; four children, Dean Holmes and wife, Donna, of Mount Olive, Rose H. Grant and husband, Billy, of Albertson, Donnell Holmes of Kinston, and Joan H. Cottle and husband, Ronny, of Albertson; a brother, Willard "Buddy" Holmes and wife, Susie, of Dudley; two sisters, Lettie Fay H. Williams and Janice H. Hart, both of Mount Olive; and four grandchildren, Jeremy Holmes, Victoria Cottle, Jennifer Grant, and Sallie Grant.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Berry and Lettie Summerlin Holmes; an infant daughter; a brother, Leonard Holmes; and a sister, Dollie H. Lee.
