DR. BILLY YAWN

CLAYTON -- Dr. Billy Ray Yawn, 74, died Saturday.

The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Everett Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. The Reverends Charles Petit, Jerry Allen and Braxton Carter officiated. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Dr. Yawn taught school in Johnston County for 31 years. He was pastor of Everett Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton for 28 1/2 years and was pastor of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Wayne County for 14 years.

He is survived by two sons, Lonnie Yawn and Mark Yawn of Clayton; four daughters, LaVern Carter and Lisa Parrish of Clayton, Michelle Lamm of Wilson and Shearae Robinson of Pinkney; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Biddix Yawn.

The family received friends on Monday night at McLaurin Funeral Home.
