Retired United States Air Force Master Sgt. Charles Eugene "Charlie" Baker, 71, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Baker was born in Harnett County to the late Claude L. Baker and Mittie Tutor Baker. A Vietnam War veteran, he was an avid motorcyclist and had worked with Shelton's Harley-Davidson for 10 years. He also owned and operated Country Time in Goldsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Stevens Baker; two daughters, Debbie Taylor and Donna Baker of Goldsboro; one sister, Repsie Lawrence of Fuquay-Varina; one brother, Floyd Baker of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Maggey Taylor and Andrew Taylor.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Bud Anderson will officiate.

Mr. Baker will lie in state today from 3 until 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends Thursday at the cemetery following the graveside service.
