Dempsey Lane, 84, of 108 South Martin Street, Mount Olive, died Wednesday morning.

The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. The Rev. Steven Wicks and the Rev. Jean Hood will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Lane was a U. S. Army veteran and a retired mechanic. He and his brother operated Lane Brothers Garage for 51 years. In recent years he had been employed with Mount Olive Livestock Market. He was a member of the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church and had previously served on the Mount Olive Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Cox Lane of the home; a daughter, Janice Faulkner, and husband, Eric, of Oklahoma; two sons, Jack Lane of Cedar Point and Jerry Lane and wife, Brenda, of Swansboro; a brother, Bill Lane and wife, Evelyn, of Mount Olive; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Reba Jean Lane; a sister, Alma Lane; and his parents, Joseph Leonard Lane and Lila Anderson Lane.

Following the service on Friday night, the Lane family will remain at the funeral home to receive friends, and at other times they will be at the residence.
