CARLTON JACOBS
After surviving years of illnesses, Carlton O. "Jake" Jacobs passed on from this life to be with his Lord on December 26, 2005. He died peacefully at his home in Goldsboro.
Carlton served in the U.S. Air Force for twenty-seven and one-half years and spent the final 11 years of his service working with inpatient and outpatient substance abuse programs for military servicemen and their dependents. Following his retirement, Carlton devoted his professional life to substance abuse counseling and Christian counseling. He was employed by Wayne County Mental Health until his retirement in 1996. In addition, he was a Christian counselor at Eagle Heights Church in Goldsboro, where he was honored as Deacon Emeritus. He was also a member of Goldsboro Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Carlton was born in 1940 in Georgetown, South Carolina, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leavy Jacobs. During his lifetime, his professional accomplishments were numerous, including earning an Associate's Degree in Political Science from St. Leo College in Florida, a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from St. Leo College, a Master's Degree in Counseling from Campbell University, and a Ph.D. in Christian counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
During his military career he was given the Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Outstanding Airman Ribbon, Vietnam Presidential Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired as 1st Sergeant of HDQTR Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in 1983.
Though his professional accomplishments were many, his personal accomplishments were his greatest devotion in his life, including his marriage to Allene and his devotion to his two daughters, LeAnne and Dawn, and his four grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, T.C. and Kristina.
Carlton is survived by his wife, Allene Slone Jacobs; his mother, Avis Lee Jacobs of Georgetown, South Carolina; his brother, Randy Jacobs of Georgetown, South Carolina; two daughters, LeAnne and her husband Troy Burdette of Fort Worth, Texas, and their two children, Emily and Jacob Burdette, and Dawn and her husband Tommy Millard of Albertson, North Carolina, and their two children, Thomas Carlton (T.C.) and Kristina Millard.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. Visitation will follow immediately afterward at the funeral home, and later at the Jacob's residence. Burial will be held with military honors at Wayne Memorial Park.
