DOUG JOYNER

William Douglas Joyner, 83, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Joyner was born July 6, 1922, in Franklin County to the late George Henry and Martha Overton Joyner. He served in World War II as a pilot and as a flight instructor in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Naval Reserve with the rank of commander.
He held an associate's degree from Louisburg College, a bachelor's degree from Atlantic Christian College, and a master's degree from East Carolina University.
Mr. Joyner worked with the Wayne County Schools as a teacher and as director of audio visual education before his retirement. He was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities over the years. He was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church and had also served there faithfully for a number of years. He also was a member of the Goldsboro Civitan Club, Ruritan Club, Reserve Officers Association, North Carolina Association of Educators and Retired School Personnel, and was an avid photographer.
His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Edna Moye Joyner; a daughter, Debra Lynn Joyner; and a grandson, Kenneth Douglas Plummer.
The funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. at Adamsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Thayer Stamper will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Rick Coor, Jack Starling, George Moye, Cliff Haynes, Dr. Steve Moye, and Dr. Phillip Moye will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence at 262 Spring Bank Road.
