HERMAN PATE III

Herman Jarvis Pate, III, 62, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Born on Jan. 17, 1943, in Goldsboro to Herman J. Pate and the late Dolly Mozingo Pate, he was a 1961 graduate of Goldsboro High School. He attended N.C. State University for one year before joining the U.S. Air Force and serving for four years. He then made his home on the Peninsula and went to work for Dixie Hospital as a Microbiologist in the Laboratory, retiring from Sentara Health Systems after 32 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking as well as knife making and was a member of the Lafayette Gun Club.

Mr. Pate is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Amie Patrick Pate; his son William Allen Pate and his wife, Shannon Mair Pate of Newport News, Va.; his grandson, William Kyle Pate and baby, Jacob Keith, who is due in April.

He is also survived by his father, Herman J. Pate of Goldsboro; four brothers, Richard Allen Pate of Goldsboro, Graham Keith Pate of LaGrange, Gary Michael Pate and his wife, Sherry, of Fayetteville, and Gregory Lance Pate and his wife, Hope, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three nieces and five nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his loving canine companion, Ms. Dutchess.

A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Grafton, Va. Pastor Bill Davis and Pastor Mark Richardson will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8:30 p.m.
