James "Ted" Thurmon Eatmon, 88, of Citrus Springs, Fla., died Monday at Citrus Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Zebulon and was the son of John and Mollie Eason Eatmon. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years, achieving the rank of chief master sergeant, and completed his military career at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during World War II, and was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring from the military, he owned and operated Teds Texaco in Goldsboro and Cyprus Cove Campground in Manteo.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth H. Caldwell Eatmon; daughters, Lynette Malphrus of Bevely Hills, Fla., and Shirley Eatmon-Creager of Finksburg, Md.; sister, Elizabeth Simon o Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday at Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, Fla.
