Betty Jean Carter Artis, 61, of 812 Ditchbank Road, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Toler and Johnny Gainus officiating. Internment will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Artis was a native of Wayne County and was the daughter of Virset M. Carter of Goldsboro and the late Luther T. Carter. She was employed as a food-service assistant at Cherry Hospital for 22 years.

Surviving are her husband, Ronnie Artis; sons and daughters, Jimmy Wayne Murray and wife Janet of Oxford, N. C., Kathy Jean Murray of Seven Springs, Pamela Sue Chestnutt and husband James of Goldsboro, and Jeffery Michael Webster of Seven Springs; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Carolyn White of Gastonia, Nancy Dawson of Rosewood, and Frances Vernett of Goldsboro; and two brothers, Douglas Carter of Dudley and David Carter of Rosewood.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service tonight, and other times at the residence.
