ARTHUR BENTON
Arthur Monroe Benton, 88, of Kenansville, N.C., died Thursday, November 3, 2005
He was born in Columbus County on September 9, 1917. Benton graduated from Evergreen High School in 1935 and went to North Carolina State and earned a degree in agriculture in 1939. In 1943 he was drafted and joined the Navy. In 1946, he was discharged to rejoin his family. The Bentons moved to Duplin County in 1950 and Arthur retired from The Farmers Home Administration in 1979. He was active in VFW Post 9810 and was a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 64 years. Children are Retired Col. David R. Benton and wife, Jane, of Kenansville, N.C., Mickey Benton and wife, Karen, of Kenansville, N.C., Kathy Benton Brown and husband, Retired Lt. Col. Wayne Brown of Goldsboro, N.C., Tom Benton and wife, Carol, of Pinehurst, N.C.; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Warsaw Methodist Church, and other times at the home. The funeral will be held Sunday, November 6, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens.
