Wesley Grey Singleton, 88, of 504 Fedelon Trail, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Neal Wingfield officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Wayne County, Mr. Singleton was the son of the late Wesley Durham Singleton and Nannie Hollowell Singleton and was married to Doris Phillips Singleton.
Mr. Singleton retired as a chief petty officer with the United States Navy. He was the last surviving Pearl Harbor veteran in Wayne County and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. After retirement from the Navy, he worked in ship supply for over 20 years at the Naval Shipyard in Washington, D.C. He was a member Salem United Methodist Church and the Old Dobbs Genealogical Society and was a Friend of the Wayne County Library.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Gail Singleton Luckett and her husband, Mike Byers, of Pikeville and Sharon Clagett and her husband, Johnny, of Accokeek Md.; five grandchildren, Grey Thomas Luckett, Graham Russell Luckett, Jeff Clagett, John Clagett and Christina Clagett; and a sister, Mary Singleton Capps and her husband, Leon, of Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Denver Singleton; and his sister, Virginia Singleton Hardison.
Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Duke University Health System, 932 Morreene Road, Durham, N.C., 20037.
The family received friends Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
