Viola Corbett Carter, 89, died Sunday at her home on Oak Blossom Lane in Greensboro.

Mrs. Carter was born in Greene County and lived most of her life in the Goldsboro area.. She was the widow of Calvin Elbert Carter and was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Reba Archambo of Hampton, Va., and Janice Brown and Cathy Carter of Greensboro; four sons, Calvin Carter of Suffolk, Va., Vernon Carter of Grandy, Melvin Carter of Pikeville and Morris Carter of Greensboro; one sister, Essie Jones of Snow Hill; a brother, Russell Corbett of Nahunta; and 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home in Ahoskie. The Rev. Robert May will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie.

The family will assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service.
