William Edwards "Bill" Edwards Uzzell Jr., 71, of 710 Ridge Dr., died Friday morning at his residence.

Born in Lenoir County, he was the son of the late William E. and Allyne Dawson Uzzell. A member of Providence United Methodist Church, he was the Retired Chief ABC Officer for Wayne County and Past President of the N.C. State ABC Association. He was a member of the Goldsboro Rifles, SCV Camp #760 and the Goldsboro Exchange Club.

A past advisor for DeMolay, he was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge #112, a Scottish Rite Mason, the Wayne County Shrine Club, and was serving on the Provost Guard in the Sudan Temple. He was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine which is the higest civilian honor that can be granted to a civilian in the state of North Carolina. He was currently the owner of Neuse River Gun & Pawn, and a member of Woodmen of the World.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. today at Providence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Jerry Jackson will officiate. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda M. Uzzell; a daughter and son-in-law, Lou Uzzell Rose and husband, Jeff, of Goldsboro; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Edwards "Eddie" Uzzell III and wife, Angie, of Goldsboro, Arthur Lenwood "Art" Uzzell" of Goldsboro, Henry Parker Uzzell and wife, Kris, of Goldsboro; a sister-in-law, Patsy Uzzell of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Jessica Uzzell, Lauren Uzzell, Natalie Uzzell, and McKinley Uzzell, all of Goldsboro; and nephews, Lemmie Uzzell and Craig Uzzell, both of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by a brother, E. Craynor Uzzell.

The family will receive friends today from 2 until 3 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, and other times at the home.
