FREMONT -- The funeral for Marion Elizabeth Sanders DeGreffread Rogers, 88, aunt of Patrice Smith of Fremont will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Taijuan Fuller will officiate. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery.
Mrs. Rogers died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Fremont to the late Millard and Lela Vick Sanders. She graduated from Fremont High School and the DeShaza Beauty Academy. She received her nursing degree 1946 from Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing in Durham. She was employed during World War II as a registered nurse at Freedman's Hospital, which later became Howard University, from which she retired, and at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
In addition to her niece, Mrs. Rogers is survived by two sons, Dr. William Rogers of Milwaukee, Wis.., and Pastor Michael Rogers of Durham; a sister, Frances Louise Crocker of Washington, D.C., and a brother, Condred Sanders of Sharpsburg, N.C.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rudolph DeGreffread and William "Gil" Rogers; a daughter, Barbara Keith, a son, Charles Douglas; three brothers, Ashton, Millard and Russell Sanders; and two sisters, Ethel Waters and Hildgreth Gillespie.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8 at Rhodes Funeral Home in Fremont, and other times at 208 Ballance Road in Fremont.
