MOUNT OLIVE -- Carrie Waters Grady, 98, a lifelong resident of the White Flash community, died early Monday at the home of her son at Harker's Island.

One of 13 children, she was born Feb. 1, 1907, to the late John W. and Ada Waller Waters. She was the widow of Paul Rex Grady and was the longtime operator of Paul R. Grady Store. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and being with her family.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church, near Mount Olive. Pastor Bob Fussell will officiate. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery, near Seven Springs.

Mrs. Grady is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randolph O. and Reva Grady of Harker's Island; daughter-in-law, Georgia Lee Grady of Mount Olive, widow of Mrs. Grady's son, Paul Durham Grady; a sister, Julie Kate Southerland of Kinston; six grandchildren, Randy Grady and wife, Debbie, Carolyn Lewis and husband, Russell, Pam Brewer and husband Phil, Paul D. Grady Jr. and wife Gale, Paula Davis and husband Lee, and Kim Beasley and husband Joe; and 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, son, and parents, she was preceded in death by another son, John Dortch Grady; an adopted son, Walter "Pap:" Howard, her seven brothers, and four of her sisters.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and other times at the residence.
