James M. "Jim" Wilson, 75, of 4460 Hwy. 70 East, died Thursday at his home.

Mr. Wilson was born in Wayne County to the late Sanders Alex Wilson and Annie Laura Daniels Wilson. He farmed in the Elroy community, and he and his brother-in-law, Swift Grady, owned and operated Wilson-Grady Garage.

Mr. Wilson served in the United States Navy and played semi-pro baseball with the Georgia State League and the Elroy Tigers. He retired as a volunteer fireman with Elroy Fire Department and was appointed to serve on the Elroy Fire Protection District Commission.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church, where he was a member, with Bill Garner and Wayne Allman officiating. Interment will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Family Cemetery, located behind the Food Lion on N.C. 111 South.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emma Jean Williams Wilson; his daughter, Sandy W. Singleton and husband, Sherwood, of Goldsboro; his son, Jimmy Wilson and wife, Jill, of High Point; his grandchildren, Jason Singleton and Maria, Tyler Wilson and Tanner Wilson; his great-granddaughter, Hayley Singleton; his sisters, Marjorie W. Sutton of LaGrange, Hattie W. Grady of Goldsboro, and Athaleen W. Johnson of Smithfield. He is also survived by Joshua Singleton, Hannah Singleton and Hayley Garris, who were like grandchildren to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marion D. Wilson.

The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of New Hope Friends Church following the service on Saturday.
