Edward McKassie was born June 19, 1922, to the late Diddie and Hebrone McCaffity and departed this life early Thursday morning on Sept. 8, 2005, at Britthaven Nursing Home of Goldsboro.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Jerusalem Cemetery in Seven Springs
He married Lydia Lee Kornegay McKassie in 1943. Although they had no children of their own, he had many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him "Uncle Ed" while he would teasingly say from time to time, "Just call me 'Ed'!"
He leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his death, his life long companion and loving wife, Lydia Lee of The Pines of Goldsboro; one sister, Charity Miles of Millen, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Mary Miller McCaffity of Deep Run; his legal guardian and niece, Susie Stanley of Pikeville; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
"Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." John 5:28, 29.
