PRINCETON -- Retired Senior Master Sergeant William David Barden, 69, of Richardson Bridge Road, died Friday.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The Rev. Dennis Pollock will officiate. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Barden was born on December 30, 1936, to the late David Robert Barden and Sallie Wiggs Barden. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having retired as senior master sergeant. He also retired from Allied Maintenance of Firestone in Wilson.

He is survived by two sons, Peter Robert Barden of Goldsboro and William David Barden Jr. and wife, Clara, of Strasburg, Va.; two daughters, Sally Dawn Sierra and husband, Orlando, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and Gina Rene' Holmes and husband, Barney, of Fayetteville; the mother of his children, Margie Barden of Goldsboro; and nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barden was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Turner.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service tonight, and other times at the home of Margie Barden, 4662 Stevens Mill Road in Goldsboro.
