William Knox "Curl" Whitfield, 80, of 212 Brantwood Drive, died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston.
Mr. Whitfield was the son of the late James Thomas "Billy" Whitfield and Beatrice Knox Whitfield. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was the former owner and operator of Whitfield's Grocery in LaGrange.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating.
Mr. Whitfield is survived by one son, Billy Kay Whitfield of Goldsboro; one grandson, Will Whitfield of Goldsboro; one sister, Faye Edwards of Durham; and two special family friends, Myrtle Manning of Kinston and Lisa Haithcock of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends at the residence, and following the service on Saturday.
Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
