George Jacob Betts, 88, died Wednesday at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Mount Olive.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Kirkland will officiate. Interment will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Betts was born November 16, 1916, in Sumter, S.C., to the late George Ducker Betts and Annie Poplin Betts. He was married to the late Margaret Ladd Betts. Mr. Betts had owned his own vending company for over 30 years. After retirement, he had worked at the News-Argus as a carrier. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Mr. Betts is survived by one daughter, Karen Worrell, and her husband, Steve, of Goldsboro; one son, Kenny Betts of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Mae Brown of Columbia, S.C., and Wilma Gettings of Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Ed Betts, and his wife, Irene, of Madison, Fla.; and his four grandchildren, Jennifer Betts, Kristen Betts, Stephanie Worrell and Tyler Worrell.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service tonight, and other times at the home of Karen Worrell, 1447 Mark Edwards Road, in Raintree.
