Vauline Atkinson Swinson, 80, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Wayne County to the late Paul and Viola Coley Atkinson. A 1943 graduate of Central High School, she attended Fayetteville State University and retired from AP Parts. She was a member of Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miller Swinson, and two brothers, John D. and Swindell Atkinson.

Her survivors include two sons, Dwight Swinson and Waddell Swinson; one daughter, Betty Jean Artis; three brothers, Willie Atkinson, James Atkinson, and Raymond Atkinson; three sisters, Glendora Barnes, Mary Edwards and Sarah Frazier; and 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at noon at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1065 Tommy's Road.. Pastor Joe A. Jackson will officiate. Interment will be in Old Mill Cemetery.

The viewing will be held Tuesday from 4 until 6:45 p.m. at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church. A wake will follow from 7 until 8 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Betty Artis, at 902 N. Virginia St.
