Ring the bells of Heaven as there is joy today, Rev. Samuel Lee Wood, 89, has entered the pearly gates. He has been greeted by many who he has sent on before him in his 56 years of being in the ministry.

Rev. Wood was born on February 23, 1916, to the late Thomas Mortimer Wood and Lorena Wood. He was a retired Methodist minister and was attending Jefferson United Methodist Church.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Johnson, Rev. Wilbur Teachey and Rev. Jean Hood officiating. Burial will be in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Rev. Wood is survived by his wife, Lois Annette Stuart Wood; his daughters, Glenna Ham and husband, Allen, of Kinston and Paula Kennison and husband, Danny, of Asheville; his half sister, Eleanor Sipole of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mary Ann Braswell, Karen McGlamery, Allison Brown and Christopher Waters; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Jefferson Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
