Sidney Earl Bowen, 89, of 920 N.C. 581 South, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Vernon Braswell will officiate. Interment will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Bowen was born in Greene County and was the son of the late Charles L. Bowen and Lela Lewis Bowen. He retired from the United States Forestry Service and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Mae Parks Bowen; two brothers, Thad Bowen of Dudley and Chester Bowen of Pilot Mountain; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Alfred Parks and his wife, Marlene, and their daughter, Marla, of LaGrange.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, C.L. Bowen Jr. and Thelbert Bowen; and his sisters, Violet Stepp, Dollie Bowen and Edith B. Gardner.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home one hour prior to and immediately following the service tonight.
