Betty Jane Cox, 71, of 116 Woods Mill Road, formerly of 1505 Boyette Drive, died Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Elder J.M. Mewborn will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cox was born in Greene County to the late William Morgan and Carrie Wade Kearney and was married to the late Elwood E. Cox. She attended Mewborn's Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Elwood E. Cox II.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ashley and Leslie Cox of Abilene, Texas, and Anthony and Rita Cox of Cary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth "Molly" and Jay Williams of Fremont and Carrie and Karl Burger of Goldsboro; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Effie Kearney of Goldsboro, William and Lorraine Kearney of Goldsboro and Paul and Shirley Kearney of Newport News, Va.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby Barker, Carol and Mose Lanaville and Sarah Kearney, all of Goldsboro; and her grandchildren, Anthony Cox, Joseph Cox, Lauren Cox, Tyler Cox, Jordan Williams, Justin Burger, and Isabella Jane Cox who is due to arrive in August.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Carrie and Karl Burger, 116 Woods Mill Road, Goldsboro.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
