SMITHY T. POPE
MOUNT OLIVE -- Smithy Tilton Pope, 76, of the Davis Street Apartments, died early Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. Committal and interment will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Calypso Cemetery in Calypso.
Mrs. Pope was the daughter of the late John Henry and Alma Strickland Tilton and was the widow of Linwood Pope.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Thomas Tilton and Brenda Tilton of Wilson and Louis John "Buster" Pope and Janice Pope of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Tonya Tilton Evans, and her husband, Joseph Evans, of Wilson; a great-grandson, Thomas Tilton Evans of Wilson; a sister-in-law, Vivian Tilton, and a nephew, Michael Tilton, both of Goldsboro.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, P.O. Box 639, Wilson, N.C., 27894.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home following the service on Wednesday night.
