GUSSIE CARTER

ROSE HILL -- Gussie Gurganus Carter, 77, of 307 South Walnut St., Rose Hill, died Tuesday at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Padgett Funeral Chapel. The Rev Bill Altman will officiate. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter was a native of Pender County and was the daughter of the late John and Marenda Brown Gurganus and the widow of Buck Walton Carter.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Bryan of Rose Hill and Susan Laws of Raleigh; one son, Walton Carter of Easley, S.C.; two sisters, Exie Padgett of Wallace and Lizzie Rivenbark of Winterville; one brother, Ernest Gurganus of Penderlea; seven grandchildren and three great-granchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p..m. at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace.
