RUFUS J. HARE

PIKEVILLE -- Rufus Jackson Hare, 89, of 664 Nahunta Road, died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mr. Hare was born in Wayne County and was the son of the late George and Lillie Ginn Hare. He was a retired farmer in the Pikeville area and was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent for several years.

He was a Past Master of Harmony Lodge # 340 A.F.&A.M, and was Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 16th Masonic District and also was a member of the Wilmington Consistory of the Scottish rite and past patron of Pikeville Chapter #300 O.E.S.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Gerry Davis, the Rev. Barry Stallings and the Rev. Troy Lee officiating. Masonic burial rites will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.

Mr. Hare is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fannie Edmundson Hare; one daughter, Betty Parker and husband, Ralph, of Wilson; one son, Dr. Dwight Hare and wife, Jaynie, of Starkville, Miss.; and his grandchildren, Mary Carla Hollis and husband, Christopher, Lee Carpenter, Daniel Edmundson Hare and Nathan Allen Hare; and a great-grandchild, Elliot Hollis.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863; or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence at 664 Nahunta Road.
