KENLY -- Elder Harvey C. Holland, 83, a minister and retired farmer, died Sunday.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Coley Funeral Home. Elder Harold Pittman will officiate. Burial will be in Kenly Cemetery.

Elder Holland was serving Pittman's Grove and Old Beulah Primitive Baptist churches and was moderator of The Black Creek Association. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, fought in the battle for Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Alice T. Holland; son, Harvey C. Holland Jr. of Kenly; daughters, Judy H. Batts of Stantonsburg, Nancy H. Johnson of Four Oaks, Joan C. Driver of Georgia and Laura H. Thronton of New Jersey; one sister, Rachel H. Outland of Kenly; one brother, William T. "Bill" Holland of Kenly; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Coley Funeral Home.
