LAVERNA THORNTON

Laverna Thornton

WILMINGTON -- Leverna Grey Keen Thornton of Wilmington, died Tuesday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on January 27, 1932, to the late Paul and Estelle Fields Keen. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Keen.

Mrs. Thornton and her husband, William E. "Bill" Thornton owned and operated Country Music USA in Wilmington.

Surviving, in addition to her husband are three children, Michael William Thornton of Surf City, Karen Lynne Thornton of Wilmington, and Mark Anthony Thornton of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Michael William Thornton II and Thadd Anthony Thornton; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Allen Thornton, and Aaron Thornton; and five brothers and sisters, Sherwood Keen, Danny Keen, Nell Ray Whitaker, Joyce Ann Guine, and Shelby Jean Fletcher.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 8 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
