Alvin "Slim" Singleton, 78, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Sauls officiating. Interment will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Singleton Family Cemetery.

Mr. Singleton was a native of Wayne County and was the son of the late Brodie Milford Singleton and Lillie Grant Singleton. He owned and operated Singleton's Grocery on N.C. Hwy. 111 South and was a farmer for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred Anderson Singleton; two sons, Ronnie Singleton and Donnie Singleton; his grandchildren, Jerry Singleton of Goldsboro, Angela Worden and husband Jack of Raleigh, Karla Carter and husband Ashley of Pikeville, Lee Singleton of Rocky Mount and Sam Singleton and wife Amanda of Goldsboro; his great-grandchildren, Bethany Singleton of Goldsboro, Ashton Carter of Pikeville and Elizabeth Carter of Pikeville and Marissa Kersey of Goldsboro

He is also survived by his brothers, Billy Singleton and wife Pat of Indiana and Bobby Singleton and wife Pat of Goldsboro; his sisters, Mildred Bailey of Goldsboro, Rachel Bush and husband Jesse of Indiana, Christine Smith and husband James of Goldsboro and Margaret Ann Bain and husband Jim of Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Enzie Singleton of LaGrange and Rachel Singleton of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kirby Singleton, Milford Singleton and Harold Singleton, and one sister, Faye Miller.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, P. O. Box 10124, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Friday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mrs. Harold Singleton, 1987 Hwy. 111 South, Goldsboro.
