BERTHA WILLIAMS

Bertha Neal Williams went home to her Father on Monday, April 25, 2005. She was 89 years old.

Bertha was born on August 26, 1915 in the Rosewood Community in Wayne County where she lived, worked and played until she moved to Raleigh in 1996 to live with her daughter. She loved her church, her friends, and family, and that love was returned to her.

Bertha was preceded in death by her father, John H. Neal; her mother, Lula Hines Neal; a brother, Grover C. Neal; two sisters, Laura Neal Hales and Floy Neal Ingram; and her step-mother, Eunice Grantham Neal.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Marion Penny; her grandsons, Ronald H. Sherron and Andrew E. Sherron of Raleigh; her granddaughters, Pamela S. Targett and Allison S. Schmidt of Richmond, Va., and Sherry S. Kline of Farmville, Va.; her step-grandchildren, Carolyn Penny of Raleigh, Howard Penny of Garner and Lorraine P. Dotson of Fuquay Varina; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a son, Herbert Edward Williams and wife, Mary, and grandsons, Herbert Williams Jr. and Dana Williams of Rosewood.

Bertha was blessed to have been loved and survived by her special "sister," Alice Neal Best, widow of Grover Neal, and so very many special nieces and nephews including: Roberta Hales Weeks, Jimmy Hales, John Neal Hales, Donald Neal, and Carolyn Ingram Westbrook, all of Rosewood; and Erma Neal Thomas and Cedric Ingram of Emerald Isle.

Flowers are welcome, as are donations in her memory to Oakland Church, 921 Oakland Church Road, Princeton, NC 27569, Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's Street, Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605 or a charity of your choice.

Bertha loved Oakland Church where services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with Larry Williams and Curtis White officiating. Interment will be in the Neal Family Cemetery in Rosewood.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Lari and Rodney Thornton, 116 Callie Drive, Goldsboro, in the Rosewood Community.
